Director, Development and Communications
Development and Communications Department

The Coalition for Homelessness Intervention & Prevention mobilizes, advocates and empowers community collaboration to end homelessness and foster an effective system of homelessness prevention and intervention in the greater Indianapolis area. CHIP board and staff members believe that successful efforts towards ending homelessness require the collective talents, resources, and commitment of the entire Indianapolis community.

Position Summary

The Director of Development and Communications will lead and implement CHIP's annual fundraising plan and communications efforts. The director cultivates strong relationships with individuals, businesses, and foundations, as well as directly solicits donations, writes grant proposals and reports, and conducts prospect researching. The position coordinates organizational fundraising events and oversees the media relations and communications strategies for the organization. The candidate will maintain accurate records and be able to manage budgets effectively. The director will report to Executive Director and serves on the CHIP leadership team.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

• Oversee all areas of fundraising for the organization including annual giving, major gifts, special events, grants, third-party events, donor recognition, donor cultivation, prospect identification and stewardship
• Develop and implement CHIP's annual fundraising plan, setting goals and strategies in collaboration with the Executive Director and Development Committee
• Provide support and leadership to the Development Committee and Board of Directors related to fundraising
• Secure funding from individuals, businesses, and foundations to meet the annual fundraising goals developed for the organization
• Recruit and train fundraising volunteers for the Development Committee and other identified strategies
• Coordinate and plan organizational fundraising events with a focus on the annual CHIP Celebration event
• Maintain a working knowledge of advancements and changes related to fundraising within the community, to the organization's mission and programs, and to the development profession
• Cultivate strong relationships with donors and volunteers and stewardship plans for individual donors
• Assure effective recognition is provided to donors, including thank you letters and other forms of recognition
• Conduct prospect research to discover potential new supporters and develop strategies to engage them
• Develop solicitation materials for staff, Board of Directors and other volunteers
• Write grant proposals and funding reports to private and public funding sources
• Oversee budgets related to the development and communications areas of the organization
• Collaboratively develop brand and messaging annually
• Oversee the communications strategies implemented by the Coordinator, Community Relations and Special Events
• Supervise activities implemented by the Coordinator, Community Relations and Special Events related to donor development and communications
• Create various reports on fundraising activities for the Board of Directors, Development Committee and Executive Director
• Oversee and manage the accurate tracking of donations, gifts and grants in the organizational data tracking system
• Coordinate and solicit media and public relations opportunities for CHIP
• Provide effective supervision to interns
• Oversee accurate program-related files, records, and documents

Education and/or Experience

Minimum Bachelor's Degree with four years of fundraising experience; preferred Master's Degree. Experience working with homeless and other disadvantaged populations and knowledge of Indianapolis area preferred. Excellent skills in communications, analysis (qualitative & quantitative), strategic planning required. Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects. Proven excellence in relationship management, public speaking/presentations, writing skills, and communications.

Salary Grade: Mid $40's- Mid $50's (dependent on experience, qualifications)
