The Capacity Building Manager is responsible for various projects which include planning, scheduling and facilitating the delivery of professional development, support, evaluation and resources to the Central Indiana nonprofit community and the organization's partners. Provide training and development services or broker such services from other professionals. Address specific training and development needs of UWCI partners and some UWCI volunteers.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.
Under the direction of the Director of Accreditation and Capacity Building in the Impact Division, the Capacity Building Manager will manage and implement a variety of projects that support community-based organizations.
Specific duties include:
• Implement and oversee UWCI capacity building activities that provide training, technical assistance, networking opportunities and other activities to UWCI partners.
• Participate in the UWCI partner assessment process, which may include coaching partners and volunteers, training volunteers for site visits, and being a resource to assessment teams, internally and externally.
• Manage special grant making programs to community-based organizations, as assigned.
• Seek out and develop community collaborations that build and increase partner capacity.
• Correspond with and provide information to partners, as appropriate and meaningful, through a variety of mediums.
• Acquire and maintain a resource bank of materials on nonprofit governance and management that can be distributed, or made available, to nonprofit organizations.
• Respond to technical assistance inquiries from partners by assessing their needs, providing training and development that addresses the identified needs, brokering services of other consultants, or providing information and resources to assist the organizations.
• Maintain a current database of nonprofit consultants and subject matter experts in Central Indiana, informational materials and volunteer resources to assist partner organizations.
• When needed, develop relationships with and share processes with new executive directors of UWCI partner organizations.
• Attend and actively participate in relevant UWCI internal and external meetings and provide regular reports to staff and volunteers on the progress of projects.
• Work with UWCI staff to track results, measure performance and develop periodic progress reports.
• Work cross functionally to ensure all initiatives are integrated across UWCI's focus areas of Education, Income, Health and Basic Needs community impact work.
• Work cross functionally to ensure that all initiatives are integrated across UWCI's goals for donors to Give, Advocate and Volunteer.
• Assist the Director of Accreditation and Capacity Building with special projects associated with capacity building efforts at UWCI.
• Performs special assignments and other work, on an as-needed basis.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in education, social work, business administration, public administration or related area with a focus on nonprofit management and/or governance required, a graduate degree is preferred. Proven experience with staff development and training, with a focus on adult learning. The ability to facilitate workshops, focus groups, task groups, etc., is required. Must be competent in oral and written communications. Effective team-building skills and the ability to participate in group planning and project implementation is required. Knowledge and understanding of nonprofit organizations are required.

Must have effective organizational and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, a talent for forming and maintaining external relationships, and an attitude toward achieving outcomes. Initiative, detail and team orientation are essential.
