Position Summary 

United Way of Central Indiana recognizes that the key to success is a strong and cohesive team that works through shared values to achieve our mission. The Corporate and Labor Engagement Associate will help advance the mission of United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) by deepening relationships between UWCI and organized labor, by utilizing connections with CILC and other Labor Leadership to grow giving to UWCI from union affiliated workplaces and by managing workplace pledge drives in assigned portfolio of accounts to grow the level of financial support and commitment to UWCI. 


Position Duties & Responsibilities 

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.  They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.   

  • Fundraising: Identify, recruit, and grow partnerships with non-participatory unions and union affiliated workplaces to ensure continued fundraising growth. Assist other UWCI team members in coordinating union support in affiliated workplaces currently engaged with UWCI. Organize, develop, and manage corporate workplace pledge drives and engagement working with the Employee Coordinators (EC) of assigned accounts utilizing email, phone calls, and in person meetings. Maintain consistent account contact and creatively explore and introduce additional UWCI opportunities, as appropriate (i.e. volunteerism, sponsorships, etc.). Ensure excellent customer service by providing timely follow up in planning, implementing, and completing the account's workplace pledge drives and engagement activities that inspire giving.
  • Internal Relationships: Coordinate with internal volunteer engagement team to invite assigned accounts and union affiliated volunteers to participate and support various service events and projects with the goal of creating additional community impact opportunities for participants and increased revenue for UWCI. Work with UWCI's Community Impact and Marketing and Communications teams to identify, develop and implement opportunities to communicate community impact work and UWCI goals and priorities to key stakeholders. Be knowledgeable about UWCI's work in Central Indiana and be an effective and compelling communicator to advance engagement and brand value.
  • External Relationships: Attend meetings of the CILC and provide reports to assure full awareness of UWCI efforts/opportunities with all labor affiliates in Central Indiana (Boone, Hamilton, Hendricks, Hancock, Marion, Morgan and Putnam Counties). Secure endorsements of UWCI from the CILC annually.  Identify and promote viable opportunities for additional union affiliate and individual involvement with UWCI. Create and maintain a list of central Indiana unions, their leadership, volunteer efforts, giving, and retiree groups in SCRM. Develop and maintain regular contact with Employee Coordinators and Executives within assigned portfolio of accounts. Identify and communicate with appropriate UWCI team members regarding opportunities to leverage these relationships more broadly.
  • Constituent Engagement: Make effective presentations through public speaking to employee and Union affiliated groups emphasizing the impact of UWCI in the community utilizing power point, videos and virtual platforms where applicable. Ensure that Union affiliated employees in need of services are aware of the 2-1-1 program as well as the services provided by UWCI's accredited Community Based Organizations (CBOs). Utilize the 2-1-1 program as the main resource for referrals when asked for connection to community services or CBOs.
  • Data Management: Enter and maintain the most current and accurate information in UWCI's database (SCRM) on all assigned accounts such as but not limited to contact information, recent communications, campaign dates, pledges, giving and engagement results. Monitor and track progress of financial results in SCRM and be familiar with how to utilize SCRM reports and various tools like excel.
  • Annual Goals: Achieve established goals for annual fundraising, and engagement. Work with the Senior Manager of Engagement for Team Machine to ensure goals reflect and align and contribute to the broader goals of the organization.
  • Flexibility:  UWCI is evolving with our changing external environment.  Flexibility is a key attribute for this position.  A willingness to take on additional duties to ensure the success of the team is essential. Performs special assignments and other work, on an as-needed basis. This role requires routine travel up to 25% of the time.

This individual reads and interprets documents such as procedure manuals.  Routinely writes detailed reports and correspondence and responds to questions and/or complaints.  Routinely speaks effectively before groups of customers, clients, and managers and/or employees of organization. This individual Routinely solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization exists. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. This individual makes limited decisions and determines best methods to solve problems by referring to established precedents and policies.  Impact of decisions is usually low to moderate cost. 



Education and/or Experience 

Bachelor's degree preferred. An associate degree or equivalent training with relevant work experience would be considered. Experience in fundraising, sales, public or business administration is preferred. Union affiliation is preferred. Knowledge of the central Indiana community and the human service sector is preferred.

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong reputation for integrity and professionalism, ability to resolve conflict constructively, ability to build strong relationships both inside and outside UWCI, ability to think strategically, commitment to fostering an inclusive environment consistent with UWCI's commitment to diversity and inclusion. Must have the ability to prepare and explain performance, manage a diverse group of donors and volunteers, manage projects and workload, and engage constructively with the other members of the UWCI team.
